About
Mount Seymour is one of The North Shore’s most beloved outdoor destinations, offering incredible hiking and backcountry access just minutes from the city. Whether you’re looking for a family-friendly forest walk, a challenging summit hike, or a multi-day backcountry adventure, Mount Seymour has it all. With panoramic views of Vancouver, Indian Arm, and the coastal mountains, as well as lush alpine meadows and rugged forest trails, it’s a must-visit for nature lovers and adventure seekers alike.
Special Features
Maplewood Flats features a well-maintained network of smooth gravel paths, perfect for strollers, wheelchairs, and walkers of all ages. With minimal elevation changes and gentle grades, it’s one of the most accessible natural spaces on the North Shore. Numerous lookouts offer breathtaking views of Burrard Inlet, nearby mountains, and of course, ideal vantage points for wildlife and birdwatching. You'll also discover unique art installations near the entrance, adding a creative element to the natural landscape. A small steeper optional trail branches off near the centre of the loop but can be bypassed for a fully accessible experience. Parking is available along the entrance road and in a large lot on Dollarton Highway, with a safe, separated access trail leading directly to the refuge entrance.
North Shore Edge Tip
North Shore Edge Tip: Mount Seymour’s alpine trails offer some of the most stunning views on The North Shore Edge, but be prepared — even on a sunny day, conditions can change quickly in the mountains. Bring layers, water, and good footwear, especially if you’re tackling routes like First Pump Peak, Tim Jones Peak, or the Mount Seymour Summit Trail. These trails reward you with sweeping views of Vancouver, Indian Arm, and the coastal mountains, but be ready for rocky sections, alpine exposure, and uneven terrain. If you’re heading up in the spring or fall, expect lingering snow patches, and in summer, bring sun protection, as there are long stretches above the tree line. Stay on marked trails to protect fragile alpine ecosystems, and always pack out what you bring in to help preserve the wild beauty of The North Shore Edge.
