About
The Baden Powell Trail: Deep Cove to Lynn Canyon is an 11.9 km point-to-point hike that takes hikers on one of the most scenic and popular sections of the full 45 km Baden Powell Trail. Generally considered moderately challenging, this route takes about 4 hours and 12 minutes to complete, offering a mix of forest, canyon, and coastal views along The North Shore Edge. Whether starting from Deep Cove or Lynn Canyon Park, hikers will pass some of the North Shore’s most famous attractions, including Quarry Rock, Seymour Canyon, Twin Falls, and the Lynn Canyon Suspension Bridge. It’s a year-round trail but is especially popular between February and November for ideal trail conditions and fewer muddy sections.
Special Features
This route offers exceptional variety — from smooth forest paths and long boardwalks to rugged, root-covered terrain and steep staircases, making it an engaging trail for both hikers and trail runners. Dogs are welcome on leash, and the route features plenty of shaded forest, river crossings, and scenic viewpoints. Highlights like Quarry Rock and Twin Falls provide natural stopping points along the way, with great opportunities for photos and rest breaks. Parking at Deep Cove is limited to three hours, which is usually not enough time for this full hike. Street parking without time limits is available further away but can be difficult to find. For a smoother start, many hikers choose to begin from Lynn Canyon Park, where ample parking is available in several lots, and hike west to Deep Cove instead. This also allows for better trail access and less time pressure if you want to take your time and enjoy the views.
North Shore Edge Tip
If you’re hiking this route one-way, consider arranging a car shuttle or using transit to return to your starting point. Starting at Lynn Canyon Park often means easier parking and a less rushed experience, plus you’ll finish in Deep Cove — a great spot to celebrate with a coffee, meal, or ice cream by the water. Just remember, stay on the trail to help protect the delicate forest ecosystems, and pack out everything you bring in to keep this iconic section of The North Shore Edge beautiful for all to enjoy.
